Utah Mountain Lion Hunting
Directory of 26 Utah Mountain Lion hunting lodges, guides and outfitters in Utah.
Hunting Mountain Lion on our ranch is by far the most unpredictable, challenging and sometimes the most frustrating. There are so many uncontrolled factors and conditions that contribute to this hunt, each is unique. Hunts can take as long as half a day to ten days and is definitely not a hunt for the faint of heart. The pursuit is a far greater thrill than the actual kill, but to harvest a Mountain Lion is certainly worth every minute and every effort expended.
The Mountain Lion is one of the most elusive animals in the wild, and live in the most rugged country in the West. They are hunted exclusively with hounds, and are very nomadic with the mature Toms having a home range in excess of 100 sq miles. A typical day lion hunting (in the snow) starts well before daylight driving roads in trucks, atv’s and snowmobiles looking for tracks. Once a track is found the dogs are released on it and then we try to keep up with the dogs, by any means necessary until they tree or bay the lion up. If no snow is present we hike canyons with the dogs until they strike a track, then we hike with the dogs and help them if necessary.
The fun and experienced guides of Boulder Mountain Adventures have been hunting these areas for over 30 years and guiding professionally for the past 15 years. Being year round residents and on the mountain almost everyday gives us a great advantage of knowing where these trophy animals are at all times and where they go when they are not where they are supposed to be. Our scouting begins in the spring and summer months while guiding fly fishing and fly fishing pack trips. The key factors to a successful hunt are being able to locate the game, knowing the nature of the species you are pursuing and having the ability to field score the animal prior the kill. We at Boulder Mountain Adventures pride ourselves in these skills.
